There's a bit of an Ubuntu meme, meme 1,meme 2, spreading around the net, making sure that we have all done our "5-A-Day".
Try to triage 5 bugs, help with 5 new users forum posts, shoot down 5 current bugs with your mad programming skills, every day.
I took this as an opportunity to try my hand at triaging bugs. My 5 for today are, 123647, 148832, 149048, 151929 and 155352
I suspect that I won't triage 5 bugs a day, but I'll try!

Useful information that's not very clear or easy to find.
The old iBook G3 Clamshell design, the very first iBook produced, cannot read new 700mb CD-R disks as the drive is too old. Yet it can read the even older 650mb CDRs.
This is very useful if you are trying out Linux isos you have downloaded, but make sure that they are small than 650mb!
The only distribution that I could try was Ubuntu as they were the only distribution to provide professionally pressed CDs.
I hope this is useful to others.

I find stuff on the floor a lot. Mostly its useless rubbish thats catches my eye, but the other evening I picked up a provisional driving license while walking in town. It belonged to a Mr Powell, and my first suspicions were it must be a fake as who would be so careless to loose their real drivers license?
Well the good thing about drivers licenses is that they have your address on so I posted it back.
Yesterday I received a christmas card, which is unusual as I never send out cards so people don't feel inclined to send any to me.
Just a quick note to say thats for returning my drivers license, it shows that there are decent people around who are honest - FAITH RESTORED.
Best wishes for 2008
Now that did fill me with the warm christmas glow that is always talked about in films and TV shows.
Merry Christmas

I have owed the domain wibbleh.com for a few years with a friend, we only bought it because it was a phrase we would shout at each other during our time in sixth form. Both being geeks we didn't want someone running off with our word. So we registered it. Since then it has been sitting around doing nothing.
I decided to create a blog a few months back, as I had little else to do with my time. I'm a fan of the Keep It Simple, Stupid way of thinking. Me being stupid, keeping things simple means I break them less, and when I do eventually break something I have a chance at fixing it. So I needed a Blogging CMS that would be simple and let me get on with writing. After a quick bit of searching I found Simple PHP Blog. Another caveat was that it had to be free software, and Simple PHP Blog is released under the GPL.
All you need is PHP on your host, and the ability to change some files so SimplePHPBlog has read/write access. That's it. Updating is as simple as copying across the new files.
Simple PHP Blog is currently on version 0.5.1, and is being actively developed. I don't think it will ever beat WordPress or the like, but for me its brilliant.
It has allowed me to write posts without having to worry too much about weird server stuff. The only criticisms I have at the moment is that sometimes the permissions go a bit wrong and the templates look a bit plain. Simple PHP Blog will throw a fit if you have the wrong permissions on a file or directory. If you have some experience of altering file permissions though it is only 10mins work to get it working again. Templates I could solve by creating my own, but I'm just too lazy and the standard one does the job.

As many people know iPods batteries wear out, like all Li-Ion batteries. This plays quite well into the hands of Apple as they bring out new products people will buy them, as their old version just wore out. This could be alleviated by Apple making the batteries easy to replace by the average joe, but again it's not in their best interests.
My 3G iPod battery was starting to loose its ability to charge fully a few years back. I started looking into what I could do about it, what services were available to get it replaced, or if I could do replace it myself.
Apple charge £69, which I thought was a bit excessive for a part they know will wear out in about 18months.
I found a company, called Ipod Doctor that sell Li-Ion iPod batteries which you use to replace yourself, for £13-£15. They also offer a service to replace the battery for you at a much more reasonable £35.
The instructions to replace the batteries are on the Ipod Doctor, and they will send you the tools to replace the battery yourself too (They ask that you send them back, so they can be re-used). The instructions are easy to follow, and the actual procedure itself is not complicated. If you can put together a PC you should be alright taking apart an iPod.
Not long ago a friend at work complained that his iPod Mini only held charge for 5mins, so I offered to replace it for him. I had replaced a battery on a Mini once before, so it wasn't too hard to do it again. In fact it only took a total of 15mins of my lunch to completely fit the new battery.
So if you have an old iPod or know someone who does, rather than giving Apple even more money, have a quick look and see if you can replace the battery yourself.
